Bobcat Country is a new student organization serving Texas State University. Beginning in the Fall of 2022, Bobcat Country will facilitate several different student country bands, each focused on various sub-genres within Texas country music, including Western Swing, Traditional Country, and Red Dirt.

About the Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Jordan Stern is a lecturer of music education at Texas State University, and serves as the Associate Director for Student Success in the School of Music. He earned Bachelor’s degrees in Percussion Performance and Music Studies and a Master’s degree in Music Education at Texas State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Education at Boston University.
Dr. Stern spent five years as the drummer in the Ameripolitan and Academy of Western Artists award-winning western swing band Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition, where he co-produced and created arrangements for the album Cowboys, Crooners, and Troubadours.
Dr. Stern wrote his doctoral dissertation on the process of becoming a pedal steel guitarist. Stern studied the pedal steel with Texas Music legend Bobby Flores, and currently is studying the Hawaiian Lap Steel with Alan Akaka. You can see Dr. Stern playing pedal steel guitar in Honky Tonks and Dance Halls across central Texas with various bands, including Bob Appel, the Abe Mac Band, Brandon Padier and Black Gold, Felix Truvere and the Open Road Band, and Jay Martinez and the Boys.
